I am delighted to welcome you to the Center for Filipino Studies at California State University East Bay, in the heart of the San Francisco Bay Area. Through this website, I wish you to be a part of a journey that began over 400 years ago with the launching of the galleon trade between Manila and Acapulco. When Filipino navigators reached California and decided to stay rather than return to the islands, they started the waves of diaspora that now comprise more than two million in the U.S. In the context of such a presence, the CFS has taken up the challenge to position itself as an advocate of Filipino Studies. It is a challenge that our members from the academe, industry, and community regard with a sense of pride that what we do now will be remembered more as a critical contribution than just a passing phase in the longer trend of Filipino presence in the new world.
Contributions to the CSUEB Leadership Fund provide the Center for Filipino Studies with unrestricted gifts that give it vital flexibility to enhance and expand its program. No form of giving to the insitute has a more immediate impact.
