COMMITTEE MISSION
|
|
The mission of the Student Affairs Committee is to develop a dynamic and interactive relationship between the Center for Filipino Studies and the student population at CSUEB, other universities and colleges, high schools in the United States and in the Philippines, and in the diaspora. The committee’s program of activities is aligned to CSUEB’s goal to “provide an academically-rich, multicultural learning experience that prepares all of its students to realize their goals, pursue meaningful lifework, and to be socially-responsible contributors to their communities, locally and globally.”

The Center has existing Memorandum of Agreements for student exchanges with the following universities in the Philippines: De La Salle University, Manila; University of the Philippines, Diliman; Silliman University, Dumaguete City, and University of Northern Philippines, Vigan City.
|
|
In addition, the Center is an institutional host for Fulbright Language Teaching Assistantships and Fulbright Exchange Professorships.
|
|
Other programs of the committee are the NVM Gonzalez Scholarship, student and faculty exchange programs, conferences, lectures, seminars, fora, art exhibits, and partnership with the Philippine American Student Association at CSUEB.

FORBIDDEN BOOK is an in-depth examination of the negative portrayal of Filipinos by American media during the time of the Philippine-American War, (1890-1907) through a 50-minute presentation and exhibit displaying historical media.
|
|
Abe Ignacio is an avid collector of Filipiniana materials including books, magazines, prints, and political cartoons from the U.S.-Philippine War. He received his B.A. in ethnic studies from the University of California at Berkeley and is a member of the East Bay chapter of the Filipino American National Historical Society.
|
|
Jorge Emmanuel is president of a research and consulting firm. He received his Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the University of Michigan, where he was also an associate of the Center for South and Southeast Asia Studies. He has written on U.S.-Philippine relations and environmental issues and co-authored, "The Philippine Environment in the 21st Century," and other books. He is a member of the Association for Asian Studies and the East Bay Chapter of the Filipino American National Historical Society.
