GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING: September 22, 2007

The Center’s first general membership meeting for school year 2007-2008 was held Saturday, September 22 at the Hayward residence of Dr. Rica Llorente.

The meeting agenda:

MINUTES OF THE MEETING

Attendees:

Sophie and Remy Pasibe, Efren, Julie, and Andrea Padilla; Maria Luisa and Oscar Peñaranda, Jon Palacio Jr., Irene Gregorio, Carlen and Gertrude Gregorio, Ric and Meg Singson, Chris Raimundo, Alan Smith, Penelope Flores, Manuel Valle, April Tablante, Carlene Sydiangco, Rica Llorente, and Julius Willis (dropped by).

  1. Progress on Website [1:00 – 1:15 PM] – Efren opened the meeting with the official announcement that the websites for the Center and the Journal are online, launched with $0 budget, but with lots of passion and patriotism.  Special thanks to webmaster Julius Willis.
  2. Journal First Issue [1:15 – 1:30 PM] Rica discussed the inaugural issue of the Journal with special thanks to members of the Editorial board who worked as blind reviewers for the articles submitted.  In addition to three research studies, there are three poems resulting from the NVM Gonzalez writing workshop in July at US Santa Barbara.
  3. Press release on the two websites will come out in Filipinas magazine’s October issue.  CSUEASTBAY’s PIO will be informed to establish a link on its main website, The Pioneer newspaper, which is the campus paper, will be informed as well.
  4. Subcommittees Brainstorming [1:30 – 2:00 PM]- The members broke out into the five committees to brainstorm their strategic plans for the coming years.  These will be inputs into  Strategic Plan for the next three years to be presented to CSUEASBAY officials including the President.
  5. Chairs of the committees, namely, Finance, Research & Publications, Community Relations and Student Affairs presented their items before the entire group, which they will then email to Efren.  These plans, projects and events will be posted on the Center’s website.
  6. Election of Executive Board [2:00-2:15] – Efren Padilla was re-elected Executive Director, Irene Gregorio as Associate Director and Rica Llorente, as Secretary-Treasurer.
  7. Adjournment – 2:20pm
