Minutes of the Advisory Board meeting held January 20, 2008 at the Hayward residence of Rica Llorente.

 

MINUTES OF THE MEETING

Present:

Efren Padilla, Lito Jaojoco, Manny Fernandez, Carlen and Gertrude Gregorio, Julius Willis, Mercie de la Cruz, Pat Gacoscos, Jun-Jun Villegas, Chuck Pe Benito, Rica Llorente, April Tablante, Chris Baytan, Jose Padua, Ric and Meg Singson

  1. The members discussed the HARANA - formal dinner is envisioned as a fundraiser and showcase for traditional Filipino serenade, food and dance.  The following points were agreed upon:
    • Manny Fernandez suggested that it be held in May, which is the Asian-American month, at a Union City venue.  Sites to be checked for availability are Ruggieri Senior Center, Holly Center and Sports Center.
    • A sub-committee was organized to conceptualize the program and the pricing of the tickets, as well as implement the event.  Mercie de la Cruz was appointed as executive director of the sub-committee together with Gertrude Gregorio, Irene Gregorio, Jon Palacio and Chuck Pe Benito.
    • The original plan of Florante Aguilar as the principal HARANA artist will be retained with guest artists to be invited.
    • The East Bay Fiesta Islands festival will be held in 2009 also in Union City to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the City’s founding.  Funding beneficiary of both events will be CFS.
    • The PASA representatives reminded the group of the Philippine Cultural Night at CSUEASTBAY on May 23-24, 2008.
  2. Discussion of NVM Gonzalez scholarship process to be provided by Irene Gregorio.
